Thank you!

What a summer it has been. I am so thankful for the opportunities that God gave me to share the Gospel to so many children all over Saskatchewan. I met many familiar faces, as well as many who I’d never met before.

My final week I was in Regina, Gray, and Lumsden. My first club in Regina ended up with 49 kids! It was amazing to see the kids bring their friends and get so excited about the stories and songs! There was 1 decision that I was aware of through the mailbox club lessons!

My next club was at Gray, SK about 20 minutes south of Regina. It is a fairly small town, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have kids! There was 25 kids out throughout the week, and I was able to leave them a brand new soccer ball! This club was absolutely a blast to teach, I only wish I could have recorded their singing! It would have given anyone goosebumps!

My final club was out in Lumsden. They had 20 kids out throughout the week, and on the last day I had the first boy attend! 19 girls and 1 boy. Kind of crazy, but the club went well!

This week definitely had its challenges, but I am so thankful for your prayers. My tooth has not hurt yet since a number of weeks ago, I can’t begin to explain how thankful and blessed I was to have you praying for me all summer. Thank you for following this blog!

Weekly Report

Posted by Sarah Rohde

Hey Mr. Durston, here is my weekly report questions. I am going by memory, so if I miss any questions just let me know!

What did God do this week?  Finally on Thursday God brought three kids to the Caronport club and then on Friday we had 6 attend. We had no one out all week and it as a real encouragement to have some kids on the last two days. The other two clubs held in Moose Jaw were well attend and each had 14/15 kids.

What could help you to become more effective? Studying the verses more so I can better explain them to the children. For example: knowing how to explain words like wrath and salvation.

Were you able to tell others about CEF? Yes, I told many people at Briercrest when I went and visited the school and also would talk with my  hostesses about the different clubs I had during the summer.

No one wanted a prayer letter and no one gave me or CEF money.

I hope this covers it all, just let me know if I missed a question. Hope you have a great week! ~~Sarah~

It was all worth it!

So this summer was not in any way what I had originally planned. However it was so much more amazing. God taught me so much and I can not wait to see everyone tomorrow to find out how God has worked in all your lives. At the beginning of the summer I felt like I was not being a good teacher because I felt like I could do so much better in the clubs, and it took me a while to realize that no matter if you had 1 kid or a hundred kids make a decision in a club. You planted a seed in those kids and God is the one who knows when that kid will make a decision and exactly how that seed will grow. So I pray that all of you remember that little is much when God is in it. God never leaves us or forsakes us.

It took me a long time to truly believe that God was there even through the hard times but now I know He is and I pray that you all see that too. You may see it when things are good and I pray that you will see it when things are cloudy or not so great. God bless and thank you all for pray.

My last clubs

Posted by Melissa Genoway

So today was a challenging day for me. It seemed like none of the kids in my first club really wanted to do anything but play soccer (well tackle soccer). However I did take my time telling the stories and we sang some songs then we went out to play soccer. The kids figured that since it was the last day they could do anything they wanted to me and it did not matter. Plus it was difficult for me to get the kids to not tackle me when several of them are taller than me and between the ages of 10-13. After club we went and played soccer and sure enough I was tackled a lot. I had someone grab me from behind and cover my eyes so I could not see the person coming to take me down. Needless to say I walked rather limped away quite sore. In the process of dodging a tackle I had a kid hit my knee full force from the front and slam it back so hard it popped. Now I walk really funny because the knee injury was to my left leg and I broke three toes on that foot when someone decided to put their leg in front of mine right as I was going to kick the ball. Also my right ankle the same one I did some muscle and bone damage to this spring playing indoor soccer was kicked several times by the kids. Although I limped away I enjoyed every last minute of playing soccer with those kids.

Then I went to my second club and the kids felt (acted) like today was their day to tell the stories. Yikes I was sore and was losing my voice so I let the kids tell me in great detail how they got up and made themselves some peanut butter toast.  I did manage to get the kids settled and was happy because that was the club where all three of the unchurched foster kids accepted Christ.

My third club the kids behaved real well and we ended up finishing everything at a decent time so we played some games. Then the same kids came to my last club because I told them that the club only needed six kids to get the soccer ball and there was seven of them (two did not end up coming to the next club).

My fourth club ended real well too. the kids brought their friends and were determined to either throw a pie in my face or soak me with water. So I convinced the kids that it would be better if we did the water because there would only be one pie and everyone could find a bucket or pitcher to use. So after teaching the club I got soaked. The kids really like to throw the water in my face for some reason.

Tomorrow Never Comes; Yesterday Doesn’t Exist

Posted by Heather Pitman

I was very sad yesterday to call it quits on my clubs. Not that I called it quits, really. I finished out my time. But it was sad. I was really ready to be done but it was still difficult.

I didn’t have any decisions this week but there was one girl who said she accepted Christ through the Mailbox Club lessons. That was sweet.

Three kids Melissa and I had in Shellbrook were at my club in Leask and they were  so great. Well, all of them were. Two “things” happened that actually had me STOPPING songs in the middle yesterday. One was that one girl had a skirt on (she was five or six) and so when she sat down her legs ended up kind of sticking to the chair she was sitting on. So when she went to stand up she slid forward on her chair and I heard this sick ripping sound and I thought her skirt had caught on something and ripped. But it was just her skin sliding against the plastic. Later on, during Garbage In Garbage Out, one of the boys decided he wanted to “be upside down” and he essentially rolled off his chair headfirst and whacked his head really hard on the ground. So that was the end of that. He was fine.

I’m going to post some pictures from my clubs on another blog later on. As is, I have to run and grab my camera and I don’t trust anyone in my family to not shut this down before I post.

Anyway, that’s all for my summer!

Heather

Answered prayer!

Posted by Melissa Genoway

So I started today off really upset because it was raining again and I went to my club in Erwood and the kids were really paying attention and I was so happy. we had time afterwards to play a bit of soccer, so naturally we did and I was not expecting to learn that the kids here play tackle soccer. I was everyones target to be tackled so I spent the whole time avoiding people (including the kids on my team) however I was not always successful and I walked away with some broken toes because I ended up playing barefoot and someone went to kick the ball right as I was so instead of them hitting the ball they hit my toes.

then I went to my second club and I asked the kids if they could close their eyes and put their hands up if they wanted to pray about God forgiving them for their sins and make a decision. All the kids that had not done so put their hands up including the boy that knew the stories and we prayed together individually. So I had four kids come the Lord in that club!

After my last club I was going through my lessons and I found out that several other kids had made a decision this week! Praise God I had been praying every day whenever I had a chance to for some kids in particular but mostly for them all, and the ones I prayed for made a decision!

Please continue to pray for the kids that made the decision and those that have not yet.

Week 5 – Wow!

Posted by Weekly Report

It is hard to believe that week 5 is done and we only have 1 1/2 days left of 5-Day Clubs. It has been and exciting week and the largest out reach yet for the summer. I think the most exciting thing for me is to see how excited each of you are for the children that you have lead to Christ. Over and over again I have been encouraged with your desire to clearly give the gospel never underestemating the price of sin even in the life of a child and their need for God’s forgiveness. The seeds you have planted this summer have been many and the response to the gospel message this past week was amazing as 66 children accepted Jesus as their Saviour!

Also just as amazing there were 910 children in the 5-Day Clubs this past week and it was the largest enrollment to date. It only goes to prove that the children will come if we give them the opportunity. I do want to thank every 5-Day Club hostess and church who opened up their homes and churches for the clubs it is such a blessing to work together with each one and the body of Christ from so many different denominations working together to reach the children of our province.

Just a reminder to everyone the Welcome Home will be at Bethany Gospel Chapel, 1850 Parker Ave. Regina, on Saturday, August 22nd at 6:30.

Also we would like all the CYIA workers to meet at the office at 74 Marquis Crescent in Regina after 1:00 pm on Saturday to return extra supplies and so that I can meet with each one. We also would like each of you to come prepared to share some highlights from your ministry this summer and share with those that are there the things God has done this summer. Do not forget to check the oil in your vehicles before you travel back to Regina.

Now for an update on this summer’s ministry and Week 5 Report:

Oh the things you can learn from the things that you say

Posted by Erinn Beech

Hey all!  Well I might as well tell how my last week of clubs went…
So my first started out pretty huge and stayed pretty huge and majority of the children were unchurched. Yet this was probably the most challenging club. They had very little attention spans so i cut the club down to fourty five minutes and we played soccer with them for the other half. I had an amazing time hanging out with those children and just playing with them.

My second club was small and they were all churched, but they always lifted my spirits because they would listen every so well. When I checked the club mailbox lessons, one boy had come to Jesus and it brightened my friday ever so much.

My third club was huge also, yet was always taught at the hottest time of the day, and as you can see, our summer has failed at being hot, so when we had those few hot days, I was so not used to them. However, I figured it out, HOT air rises even in the shade of a tent…sooo I sat down and told the stories.

I’ve learned so much this past couple weeks and each of these bible characters and Hudson Taylor made such an impact on my life! Through Hudson’s story I learned that God will provide, I need to trust in him, no matter my problem GOD IS BIGGER!! That I have a choice to make, will I be like the fishermen in the end of story, or will I be like Hudson? Will I give up when the going gets tough? Can I realize that I am nothing and God is everything? That Nothing is impossible with God? That We can do everything through him who gives us strength?
Job made me realize that we don’t have to be happy because these things are happening to us, yet we can rejoice in God because he is all powerful all amazing
Nehemiah showed me that everything is possible with God and that when others discourage me, I don’t need to get down, I can put my trust in him!
Gideon taught me to stand up and fight and realize that God has the battle, God has the world and i never ever need to worry!
Its so amazing what you can learn through yourself talking and sometimes things will come out that you never thought of before.

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong”

sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.”

Note that last line: POSSESSING EVERYTHING
God bless and I hope the rest of your days are filled with Jesus’s love:)
